The way to Install a Primary Hard Drive

This tutorial teaches how to set up a primary hard drive. The primary commute is your main drive, not a vast secondary drive. Installing a second drive is similar, but you need to configure your drive diversely. Be sure to have your certification handy at all times.

Learning how to put up computer components like a disk drive is not hard, but the proper groundwork is the key to making it a new smooth experience.

Before beginning, it is best to shut down your computer completely. Also, usually, switch the power deliver switch to the off situation and pull the HVAC cord from the wall socket.

1 . Remove the Case and put Your Drive Jumper

The primary order of business is to open your computer case so that you can install the hard drive. The method varies, but most modern situations use a mini-tower design and possess side panels that are screwed onto the chassis.

You need to find the panel above the motherboard and eliminate the screws in the back to glide the panel out. In case you have an older computer design, you could have to remove all of the screws inside the back and then slide the particular chassis out.

Next, you need to configure your hard drive. To properly set up complex drive components, you need to set your drive ladies’ jumpers. On the back of your take, you will notice pairs connected with metal pins pointing to numerous positions. There will be a jumper over the pins in one of these settings.

Consult your certification. If you are installing the primary and only drive, you will place the jumper to “Cable Select. ” (If you’re installing more than one drive, you might choose “Master” for the critical drive. )

2 . Habitually, the Drive into the Scenario

Once the drive is constructed, you are ready to insert the item into the case. Examine the look of your case to see what their options are here.

Inside your scenario, there is what is known as a bay of drive. Some new-fangled case models offer a removable version on this drive bay or cage. In case you have that, consider yourself blessed. It’s much easier to know how to put in computer components when you need not poke around in the case of the complete time.

If you have an easily-removed bay, then remove it today. Align the mounting openings on the drive bay with the increasing holes on your hard drive, and screw them together. While you are done, insert the bays of drive back into the case and bolt it back on.

When, however, you don’t have an easily-removed bay, then all is just not lost. Just insert the hard drive into the drive bay, arrange the mounting holes collectively, and screw it in. It’s not that difficult; it is just a bit of hand and eye coordination.

3. Add All Cables

Of course, you will need to add cables somewhere to set up complex drive components or any additional components. In the case of a hard drive, you will need to attach a suitable IDE cable from the mainboard to the motherboard and then connect the power cable.

First, set up the IDE cable towards the motherboard. For your added comfort, the IDE cable is color-coded for you. It is usually glowing blue at the bottom and has a red-colored stripe on the side. This cable connection will be inserted into the mainboard at the IDE0 (Primary) or even the IDE1 (Secondary) connector.

As an added check, ensure that the part of the cable with the red-colored stripe lines up with the back side of the motherboard labeled “Pin 1 . ” Once you’re done, connect the other finish of this IDE cable to the hard drive. Connect the dark controller and be sure that, typically, the red stripe is aligned correctly with “Pin 1” on your hard drive.

Finally, plug the four-pin connector, typically from your power accessory, into the back of your hard drive, and you’re done!

4. Up close and Power Up

Now it’s time to seal up and power up. Reestablish the case panel you took off earlier or slide your computer chassis back into the computer event.

Screw it back about, flip the power switch to the on position and affix the AC cord. Switch the computer back on.

Now your system BIOS will find that a new hard drive has become attached.

You may have to set up the BIOS to correctly detect the hard drive and at least supply some specific configurations. As we always say, seek advice from your documentation and follow their instructions. Much of our tutorials on installing pc components apply across the board. However, depending on your producer, you still need to tweak a few settings.

Conclusion

Learning to install complex disk units is not problematic from a mechanized standpoint. It can be done very quickly.

But it’s more than a setup. The drive unit must be properly configured. Jumper configurations must be set appropriately; then, the BIOS must identify your new drive. Afterward, you could then need to format your travel and install your central system.

As you can see, beyond the basic installation, there are several additional specifics. That’s why we encourage you to have patience and follow all these tutorials step by step–and, as always, read the instructions!
