Before, you had to have an advanced qualification in nerd-speak just to get a new WordPress template installed. These days, in MOST cases, that’s no longer predicament.
This tutorial should show you the Average Joe (or Josephine) how to install a WordPress format that you’ve purchased or got for free from the internet.
I should speak about that. I’m making several assumptions here.
Assumption #1 is that you are hosting your WordPress site and do not have one main hosted for you through Squidoo. Com (these are crucial instructions, but don’t worry. Factors . will show you later how to coordinate your WordPress site that one could modify easily! )
Premiss #2 is that your installed WordPress for yourself (GoDaddy and Fantastico are nearly all standards). This will automatically offer a site the “permissions” essential to make updates and transfer your theme to Squidoo.
Assumption #3 is that the format you received came to you in a zip file. A zipper file is essentially a group of data that would typically be too large (or too big of problems in the you-know-what) to add all at once.
The icon to get a zip file on your computer looks like a stack of books laying on their side, the spines facing you. They’re constantly the same colour (on the particular PC, at least. I’m uncertain about a Mac): green at the bottom, blue in the middle, and purple at the top.
Don’t worry about doing something with these files! We’re going to utilize them precisely the way they are.
Today for the fun part…
The first step: Log into your WordPress website (remember, this needs to be a website you host yourself rather than one from WordPress. com). This should take you to your current Dashboard (but you’re possibly familiar with this page, right? )
Step 2: Click on the little antelope next to the Appearance module around the left-hand side of your display. A series of additional choices must drop down. One of these choices will probably be “Add New Themes”. Should you not see it, don’t panic. Select “Themes” and look at the top of your next screen. An “Add New” button should be at the top of the item that’ll allow you to add a new motif.
Step 3: Assuming you’re for the page that says “Install Themes” at the top, click on the “Upload” tab just under the “Install Themes” type at the top of often the page. A new page may come up, asking you to locate often the zip file on your computer.
Step: Locate the zip data on your computer, click on it, and hit the “Install Now” button just to the right. Today do nothing. Let the computer carry out its “magic”.: )
Several status updates will tell you what the actual computer is doing. Unzipping the particular file, etc. Essentially, it is putting the contents in the file where they will belong to make the template perform properly.
But wait! Wish not done!
Step five: You’re given three selections: Preview, Activate, or Erase. You might want to preview the template you have loaded to ensure Oahu is the right one. If it seems reasonable to you, close that will screen and click on the “Activate” tab.
Your WordPress web template is active, and people can see the fruits of your labour! How fabulous does your website look now???
In a few unusual instances, there are some cases just where you’ll need to install the template from the FTP. However, unless you have an error when you install the website the way I’ve just alerted you and have exhausted tapping advantage of your friend who knows Squidoo, I’d stay away from logging into your FTP.
The capacity to “break something” in there is just too good. And in my experience, in the event you break something and don’t determine what you’re doing (this does work for computers, car restore, and just about anything else with life), it costs multiple dinero to get it predetermined.
In the end, stick to the five ways you’ve been given here, including your site will be up, managed, and looking fabulous in no time!
