You need to be pushing more out there. They’re trying to crush the television networks out there.

Even LinkedIn; LinkedIn now has a live feature. Video does way better than anything else. If you post videos, you’ll get way more engagement than if you didn’t.

I felt that with my channel, I usually get four or five times more engagement just by posting video content over text space.

So start with that.

The second tip I have for you is don’t be so preoccupied about being perfect.

Everyone’s like oh I gotta pose, I gotta wear makeup, I gotta be perfect before I take a picture or I post something.

Nothing has to be perfect.

Just put it out there and see what works. It’s all about testing. The stuff that’s working is what you should do more of.

When you post stuff, and it doesn’t do well, you shouldn’t keep posting that same stuff over and over again. And that’s what you’re doing right now.

A lot of people are like, let me put these images of quotes, but if you’re not getting traction of those images with quotes on LinkedIn or on Facebook, stop posting them.

They’re not going to do any better for you. You gotta post stuff that is doing well.

It’s all about testing, and when you’re testing, you don’t have to be perfect. Just go with the flow.

The next step I have for you is leverage micro-content.

Everyone’s like, oh I gotta go out there and create content, and they make this whole ordeal of it.

Film your life. Film your day in the office. Talk about your customers, talk about your products or services. If you’re giving a speech, cool, give that speech.

And when you have all this information, cut it up into bite-sized information, five minute clips, two minute clips.

Quick images here and there, add a quote, and test throwing it all out there because then you can use this micro-content to drive traffic to that main piece of content.

It’ll help you get three, four, five times more views than if you just focus on these big pieces of content.

Because when you only focus on this big piece of content, it’s hit or miss.

But when you do 10 of them, you have 10 shots at doing really well and that’ll tell you, hey this is what you should do more of and this is what you should do less of.

The next tip is what works on one social network, won’t work on all.

I’m seeing a huge trend right now, everyone’s like they take the same content, they put in on LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, SnapChat, and they’re like, this is what I’m doing.

Well let me tell you something. What works on Instagram won’t work on Facebook. Good example of this, I could put images with quotes and do really well on Instagram but Facebook doesn’t care about that.

You gotta figure out what’s working for each social network and do that for that network. Each algorithm isn’t the same.

And last but not least, have your edge.

There’s something unique about you. Exploit that, leverage that, be yourself.

Everyone tries to be someone else on the social web. Who cares what people think?

By being yourself, you’re going to be much better off than if you’re just trying to act a certain way just for Instagram, or just for YouTube, or just for Facebook.

Leverage your edge. If you’re someone who like cussing because that’s just you, be you. If you’re someone who’s dorky and nerdy like me, I’m me; I don’t try to go out there and pose with male models and female models, I myself release informative technical content ’cause that’s just me.

Be yourself and leverage your edge.

Now if you follow these techniques, you’re going to be much more popular on the social web, your content won’t be garbage, people are going to like, share, and engage with it.

Have you thought about sharing it six times a year? Yes, that same piece of article over and over again. By doing that, what you’ll find is, you’ll get way more traffic, typically double to triple the amount of traffic than if you just shared it once.

Second tip, create engaging content. The biggest part about this social algorithms, in 2019 is comments. It’s not likes, it’s not shares, it’s how many people are leaving a comment. Do you know why? Well, it’s because this takes more effort for you to leave a comment than it does for you to like this video or share the video. Don’t believe me? Leave a comment below. If everyone leaves a comment below, you’ll watch this video go viral. It could be as simple as being like yes, no, or the number, one; it doesn’t matter what you leave in the comment. If you all leave a comment, this video will go more viral.

The third tip I have for you, is don’t be afraid to promote your business. It’s so funny, everyone’s like, “Oh, I figured out how to get social traffic “but it’s useless; “It drives no sales.” Well, are you asking people to buy from you? If you don’t have any call-to-actions in your videos, you can’t expect people to come, consume your content and be like, “Yeah, sure. I’m gonna buy from you, Neil.” People don’t think that way, they’re just gonna consume. You’ve got to encourage them to go to your business, buy or buy your products or your services or sign up from. That’s why at the end of every one of my videos, I tell everyone to check out my ad agency, Neil Patel Digital.

And the last tip I have for you, and this is what you haven’t tried, and this is what you are not doing, optimize your own type of conversions. Even when you get the social traffic, you’re just not gonna get those people to convert into customers. Yes, you can tell people to buy your products, buy your services, and that’s one strike, but you also need to optimize your own learning pages. By using tools like Crazy Egg, you can see where people are clicking, where they are not, what’s stopping them from converting, and then get them to convert by running A/B test. You can even use tools like Hello Bar and Subscribers to either capture emails, or even to get people on your partial notification list. That way, over time you can nurture people and convince them to buy through JEP notifications.

The fourth tip is to leverage stories on Instagram and Facebook. They get so much engagement. What I like doing is sharing stories multiple times a day. Not just one or two stories but like 10, 12, 13. And even on Instagram what you can do that’s really cool is that you’re sharing stories. You can tell people to swipe up. Gary V. does this a ton. When he has a podcast or a blog post, he’s like, “Swipe up, swipe up.” It gets so much more engagement. That way his podcast is getting more downloads, people are going more to his site, he’s getting more conversion and sales. It’s a simple hack; it works well. And if you do multiple updates to your story each and every single day, it gives you more opportunities to get people to swipe up.

The fifth tip I have for you is cross promote your social profiles. You’re not just on Facebook. You’re not just on LinkedIn. You’re on all of them, or at least you’re on the major ones. So tell all your Twitter fans or followers to follow you on Facebook. Tell your Facebook people to follow you on Twitter. Tell your people on LinkedIn to check out your Twitter and your Facebook and your Instagram, and do that vice versa with all your profiles.

The sixth tip I have for you is to use exit popup. You know why I leverage exit popups? It’s one of the highest converting things you can do. Someone’s going to leave your site, might as well create that last ditch effort to get ’em to convert. And I don’t recommend doing it on mobile. I would recommend doing it just for desktop. If you want to do it on mobile, I would recommend that you wait at least 30 seconds before you show it because it’s too hard to detect when they’re going to leave your site.

The last tip I have for you is to test out video. Social platforms love video. So if you create video, you’re giving them more potential eyeballs instead of the television networks. That’s why companies like Netflix and Hulu, they’re pushing so much on paid content. Everyone, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and all these social sites want that video content. So consider creating because when you do, you’re going to get more engagement.

And that’s the cool part. By being transparent, you’re gonna get a following of people being like, “Oh, cool, you’re showing all of your amazing moments “and all your terrible moments.”

#3: Use videos.

Look, you’re watching me.

You know the past few months I’ve been doing a ton of videos, I’ve been going to conferences, events, and you know what people have been saying?

Neil, you have amazing content.

I’m like, “Great you love my content.

“What was the latest piece of content that you liked?”

I’m just trying to get feedback on how I can improve.

And they’re like, “Oh, your video on X, Y, and Z topic.”

They’re not talking about my podcasts; they’re not talking about my blog content even though my blog content gets way more traffic.

Everyone’s talking about my video content.

Why is that? It’s because it’s helping me build a deeper connection with you.

Sure, there are lots of comments on my videos, but I also do that in my blog comments.

Why isn’t my blog growing as fast? People want videos; it’s how they connect with one another. So, create videos.

It’s not about text-based content these days; it’s not about audio-based content, if you want to stand out from the crowd it’s all about videos.

#4: Be a long-term thinker.

Look at Gary Vaynerchuk; you think he’s successful, right? He is. Did it happen overnight? No, it didn’t.

He had Wine Library TV before that, then he created his agency, then did the DailyVee, and eventually, yes, you’re seeing him everywhere, but it took him a long time before he got to where he is.

And the same with me. You think I’m an overnight success?

No, I’ve been doing this for over 16 years. That’s a long time.

No, you don’t have to put in 16 years like I am before you start seeing results and making money, but if you want to really succeed in the marketing world, you have to think of it as a three-plus year plan.

Don’t expect amazing things in the first six months; you’ll see some traction.

After the first year, you’re going to start seeing growth.

After the second year, things are going to start skyrocketing.

After three years, assuming you’re pushing hard every single week, then things are going to start blowing up.

But, if you don’t do it consistently you won’t do well. It’s all about the long game.
